Black Series – FIRST REVIEW of the Next Generation!
Check out the first U.S. review, by audio video REVOLUTION, of our Black Signature Series Integrated amplifiers, all purpose-designed to power ultra-low speaker impedances. The Series release marked REDGUM’s 21st Birthday year, being first shown at the Australian Audio and AV Show 2014. During that October, REDGUM’s second Indiegogo crowd-funding venture was also in progress offering the Black RGi120ENR, with the Black RGi35ENR having been the focus of the first round.
All being electronic clones of their wood-fronted model namesakes (with the Black RGi60ENR to complete the set), the Black Series represents the new generation of Signature Series Integrateds. In short, still the “same, and then some” due to an internal power lift and some visual changes.
Instantly noticeable is the addition of REDGUM’s SignWave heat sink, the hallmark of all large Signature Series amplifiers since 2005. This is complemented by some mirror-imaging of the front panel detail, now without the wood but still referring back to the Series’ true origins. The inclusion of REDGUM’s unique Dual Mono remote control as part of the Black design reflects how there is no place for short-cuts.
So what has happened to their “clone mothers” who used to bear these model names in the original series of amplifiers with Red Gum wood front panels? Thanks to having put on some weight over the many years, they have had their power specifications updated to reflect current production, and been renamed as part of the Amplifolia range, which remains Australian-made as before.
With REDGUM’s Amplifolia range and the Black Series being internally so closely-related, what is gained by having two separate ranges? Adding the Black Series presents products especially focussed on ultra-low speaker impedances, and at the same time provides tighter production costs to meet customer expectations. Whilst made in a shared facility in Shenzhen, China, component qualities remain at the level found in REDGUM’s Australian-made product, and thus the sonic signature remains, as always, … “Stunning!”
