BackgroundThe original REDGUM top-line DAC/CD Player was the RGCD5 model. Along with other top-line IC brands such as Burr Brown, the CD5 used digital filters from one of the leading manufacturers, NPC. Recently, NPC released an even better "top line" IC incorporating the latest in digital filter technology. In view of this, we have decided to upgrade the CD5 model and make this new IC the standard filter used in it from now on.
Model name change
To make this component change within the model range clear to our customers, past and present, only the upgraded model is now available, and it is called the RGCD5ENR. We use the letters ENR on all our special “Signature Series” amplifiers, and so this is most applicable for what is now an even more special DAC/CD player.
CD5 Upgrade Kit
For our existing customers with an original RGCD5 design player, we offer a CD5 Upgrade kit so that the new Digital Filter IC can be installed into their unit. In this way, the product is up-to-date with the latest in a technology that was not available when the CD5 was first released.
To this end, the CD5 Upgrade Kit provides the new Digital Filter IC along with illustrated instructions and the necessary simple tool to open the chassis and insert the new filter. NO SOLDERING IS REQUIRED. The new IC is presented ready for insertion on a new circuit board ("Daughter board"). Once the original filter is removed, the new IC will plug into the socket left empty on the "Mother board". We anticipate the time required to change over the ICs would be less than half an hour.
